Then explain why my ppm and ph are both climbing up it was at 349 then next morning it was at 249 then the next day it was at 348

Finally…someone dispels the "let pH drift up…then knock it back down" myth. I remember back when I was 17 or so (yes – I was very much into hydroponic gardening way back then – almost 25 years ago) I would skip regular high school classes and sneak over to the public library across the street and stay for an hour or 4 devouring any crusty book on hydroponics and soilless gardening I could find. Dr. Howard Resh had the best ones. Hoaglands salt fertilizer recipes…Cornell "peat – lite" mixes…raft systems. All kinds of groovy info I implement in some fashion to this day. At anyrate…I distinctly remember about authors saying letting pH drift out of target was definitely not a good thing. I also remember bugging landscape pond shops to order me a particular Little Giant submersible pump that I wanted to build my first closet system. Indoor gardening shops were unheard of in my area back then. Lol. Good times.

  14. @christopherbehrens7996 on December 1, 2023 at 3:00 am

Pro growers never use PH up or PH down in their nutrient reservoir. Those should only be used for testing the solution seperately.

  15. @Krapkarma on December 1, 2023 at 3:00 am

Why do Americans talk like they are running out of time?

  16. @nicholasmckenzie6957 on December 1, 2023 at 3:02 am

    it’s pronounced cat-ion and anne-ions

  17. @josephguida9497 on December 1, 2023 at 3:03 am

My pH starts at 6.5 and takes seven days to drift down to about 5.4-5.3. At day seven you change the water. 1 gram per watt, automatic water changes. You never adjust pH unless you are mixing a new batch of res water.

  18. @BRlNGERofRAIN on December 1, 2023 at 3:04 am

So when the plant converts NO3 into OH- by using the H+ from within the plant, what is used within the plant to convert NH4 into H+?

  19. @eugeniahobbs41 on December 1, 2023 at 3:05 am

It’s vacation "vacashun" and cat ion or an ion. All kidding aside, great videos. I use vinegar and sodium bicarbonate solution to adjust pH.

  20. @youngjedi9199 on December 1, 2023 at 3:05 am

Dude I just want to say you’re a fucking champion!

  21. @DrValerie800 on December 1, 2023 at 3:07 am

"cashions"? Is that a Cajun cation? LOL…it’s pronounced CAT-ion and anions are not relatives of onions, they are pronounced AN-ion. Sorry, my biochemistry gene just spasmed and went crazy with that!

  22. @dalelane1948 on December 1, 2023 at 3:07 am

Not sure if it was a good vid or not. I couldn’t get past the cajuns or Haitians or whoever killed all the cats.

  23. @ashleyember6822 on December 1, 2023 at 3:08 am

Your other video says do not add PH up or down direct to solution but this does just that?
    Confused ?

  24. @shanm157 on December 1, 2023 at 3:09 am

You made a mistake at 5:34. You said NO3- is taken up by roots and is converted into NH3. I looked it up and found that NO3- is taken up and reduced to NH4+ by the enzyme nitrate reductase. Or am i mistaken? Do clarify.

  25. @sunelsunel3663 on December 1, 2023 at 3:10 am

  26. @obviouslytwo4u on December 1, 2023 at 3:12 am

very good vidjhoes , question please , do you have to keep all ph probes wet meaning hand held are the same ??

  27. @royshay1705 on December 1, 2023 at 3:16 am

My friend, you are the real deal! Great videos with the right combination of science based facts, and a fun to watch tutorial. Rock on!

  28. @warrioratthewall1969 on December 1, 2023 at 3:16 am

I thought I remember you suggesting to add pH down FIRST to the reservior? If that’s the case what happens when these pH controllers add pH up/down? Also, is there any difference in adding cal-mag supplements first or last? THANKS again for another great video!

  29. @nagendersingh1608 on December 1, 2023 at 3:16 am

Very informative ! I am facing an issue with ph up from 5.5 to 7.5 in every 4 to 5 hours with a slight raise in TDS level. I am using phosphoric acid as ph down. Thanks for the help. 🙂

  30. @nicholasmckenzie6957 on December 1, 2023 at 3:17 am

    also chelate is keylate

  31. @hball6695 on December 1, 2023 at 3:19 am

thank you, Everest, for making me smarter, no easy task. this video (all your videos, actually) has answered so many questions about my grow!

  32. @raymondhatfield9966 on December 1, 2023 at 3:19 am

That’s a great break down for circulation, but it does not explain the same effect in a drain to waist reservoir.

  33. @davidnewton3064 on December 1, 2023 at 3:20 am

In the 101 video you mention diluting your pH adjuster before adding it to your solution. However, in this video you seem to be adding it straight to the solution through your doser. Are those specific brands already diluted enough to do so or did you just not mention the dilution in this video?

  34. @bweduwabango2064 on December 1, 2023 at 3:20 am

That’s why I stick mine at 5.80PH Still it barely drifts. I let it go for 2 weeks and it drifted .05ph Botanicare PBP nutes.

  35. @mariecurie8700 on December 1, 2023 at 3:23 am

    Hello Everest,

I posted a bunch of comments with questions to your other videos and here is a question about pH.
I made a pH adjusted feeding solution for my seedlings in a measuring cup and there was 1/2 of the cup left from the time I top watered those little Grodan plugs. Two days later I wanted to use the solution again. The pH has risen from 5.5 to 6.7 just on its own. I use General Hydroponics PH DOWN.
It is clear to me that the acid that was dissolved in water simply broke down whether completely or partially. I must say that the PH was lowered by the feeding nutrients first and then I used the pH down.
Is there any pH adjuster on the market that would not break down this fast.

I can understand now why pH in my res water grows faster than my plants :-).

    Thanks!

    Great info, thank you.

  37. @stephendedalus191 on December 1, 2023 at 3:26 am

It is pronounced "cat-ion". Not sation or kayshun.

  38. @user-mu6qn4fw8r on December 1, 2023 at 3:27 am

excellent video. i’m getting huge increase in ph over 24 hours by at least 2 points so deffs gonna add some extra part A which has Nitrogen in it.

  39. @will227inyoface2 on December 1, 2023 at 3:27 am

Hey guys can someone help me out here? Im new to gardening and decided to feed my soil plants with General Hydroponics. For a month I’ve been adjusting the PH BEFORE I add my nutrients to my water. Today for the first time I tested my PH AFTER adding nutrients to my water and got a PH of 4.1!! So I tried adding a bunch of PH-up to try and get it up to a PH of 6. But after using large amounts of PH-up Im still only getting a reading of like 4.3! What the heck is going on???

  40. @bentremy on December 1, 2023 at 3:28 am

  50. @loadapish on December 1, 2023 at 3:38 am

i use ph up and canna 2 part nutrients. i always end up with clouds in the solution. i think it might be canna coco b that causes the clouds. how do i try to avoid the clouds? will the plant still be able to uptake some nutrients from this cloudy solution? thanks.
