Purchasing Cannabis Seed

What to Look For With Any Purchased Seed…
Germination
Emergence
Paperwork (COA)
Visual Inspection

Germination
Germination- the development of a plant from a seed or spore after a period of dormancy.
The production of an initial root (radicle)

Emergence
Emergence- an outgrowth from a stem or leaf composed of epidermal and subepidermal tissue.
The act of the seedling breaking through the soil and unfurling its leaves.

Certificate of Analysis (COA)
When it comes to hemp cultivation licensing, a valid COA is crucial.
A COA is an official document outlining the test results of a given product and common for food, chemicals and pharmaceutical products.
A COA can be performed either in-house or by a third-party as long as the entity is licensed to do so.
Though specific hemp seed requirements vary by location, a valid COA will meet most conditions.
Reputable hemp seed banks will always have a product’s COA ready to view.

What a COA Tells You…
The COA will list all of the most common cannabinoids found in a sample.
Ex. delta-9 THC, delta-8 THC, THCv, THCa, CBDa, CBDv, CBN, CBNa and CBC

Note delta-9 THC is the distinguishing factor between hemp and marijuana.

To determine if a sample meets the criteria for “hemp,” or “marijuana” its delta-9 concentration is key.

COA Example
Additionally, a Certificate of Analysis will list product contaminants.

This includes microorganisms, residual solvents and chemicals, and heavy metals (which hemp is notorious for collecting from the soil). Ideally, each of these items should come with a clear “ND” (none detected) stamp.

Visual Inspection
While this may be after the purchase it can provide a general idea of the seed grade you have received.
What do good seeds look like?

Bigger Seed = Better Quality?
Note that cannabis seeds of fiber cultivars are larger than those of drug strains

This could be due in part that fiber based plants having a greater history of being used for food source than the drug based strains.

Great info, but I don’t think stripes are a very good indicator of a seeds overall quality. They can indicate how tenderly the seed was handled, though, as the stripes can rub off with handling.

@DeBacco my question regarding this issue is as an example ethos seeds cost 145 for 10 seeds and exotic seeds cost 225 for 6 seeds, almost 4x the price
Will I directly see higher terpene and thc levels buying the more expensive seeds?

The seed breeders I used are just an example I’m referring to highest priced seed vs medium priced and if ones Tryn to obtain the highest levels they can get, is it worth the extra money or are you just paying for the breeders particular crosses and name ect?

Mabye also add where you would buy your seeds if looking for the best flower levels potential

A difficulty new growers have is working with seeds that were produced without isolation in mind. That leads to your finished product looking nothing like the advertised plant. Most 5 packs from breeders will likely hold several phenotypes of the same advertised strain. Never judge the pack from your experience with one seed. Pop all 5 and figure out what you are really working with.

Might you expect larger seeds if fewer are produced per flower?

In my experience, seeds without "tiger stripes" may not be of lesser quality. Some cultivars don’t have stripes, yet they are considered to be higher potency strains, for instance the Superman I recently harvested.
Seed size is another variable that can be misleading. The Oxoacan sativa has huge seeds , and it’s a huge plant also.
Cool series; I do like your style 😎

Selecting seeds would be more accurate description. About actually purchasing, USA sell ? Take credit cards. EU Bitcoin, bank transfers. Some take cash or money orders. Maybe a walk through buying seeds from Attitude. Seems it’s very hard to purchase. Any help would be appreciated.
