Recreational marijuana debate ramps up in Pa.

Recreational cannabis is a growing trend among Pennsylvania’s neighbors. On Tuesday—Ohio joined Maryland, New York, and New Jersey in legalizing and regulating marijuana.

According to the PA Cannabis Coalition—more than 50% of Pennsylvanians live in a county that borders a state that has legalized marijuana. Executive Director Meredith Buettner is calling on state lawmakers to join its neighbors in legalizing the drug.

“It’s past time for us to take some action in Pennsylvania,” said Buettner. “We are blocking our citizens from safe and secure access; we are failing to right the wrongs of cannabis prohibition.”

Last week the Pennsylvania House Health Committee held a hearing on marijuana legalization. Republican State Senator Mike Regan said he supports legalization to help boost tax revenue and to undercut drug cartels.

The PUBLIC are who consume cannabis. What is legalized can be regulated. Black market product cannot. We already had the mistake of alcohol Prohibition which made the Mafia rich.
The Founders of the US did not outlaw cannabis. That was a much later idea motivated by racism (those who have not read the relevant material should not have opinions) and political careerism notably that of Harry Anslinger who wanted to be what J. Edgar Hoover became.

Legalize it. Youth are buying off the streets. Put it Stores and shut down street sales.

  4. @williammummert645 on June 24, 2024 at 10:35 am

let’s get it on the ballot, let the pa. voters decide

In Ohio and the surrounding states you can home grow cannabis for personal use but in PA it’s a death sentence. Josh Shapiro’s agenda is to keep cannabis illegal for the next four years because he built his career off of that lie that cannabis is bad. They also are enriching the private owners of medical marijuana stores while sending others to prison in secret. Josh is also keeping minimum wage at 7.00 an hour. He is trying to enact nazi red flag laws to nark your neighbor if you see them growing cannabis. Josh Shapiro is as bad as Hitler. Pennsylvania just allows this abuse of power continue to happen as they turn a blind eye to it.

Money and jobs that are leaving the state because of this terrible and a lot of older people would rather smoke a joint and sit home and have some coffee and go out and drink and drive just saying

  7. @raywalteroutdoors on June 24, 2024 at 10:39 am

    Its sad Mike is retiring

  8. @danielmoss8153 on June 24, 2024 at 10:44 am

I never saw two stoners sitting at a bar (stoners don’t drink btw) and say , "What you lookin at ?" and fight. Seriously folks, legalize it and move on.

  9. @ft.christian4649 on June 24, 2024 at 10:45 am

Y’all are so worried about children, but you can’t simply keep the goddamn nicotine vapes out of their fucking hands, but you won’t do anything about that will you? But oh I guess let’s just blame marijuana because “it’s addictive”, I’ve been smoking for years, I can literally quit this plant whenever the fuck I want to, I choose not to because it helps with my back pain, my anxiety, my depression, my stomach issues. This plant has so many benefits, and the fact that it is not legalized yet is absolutely insane to me.

Such a joke Alcohol and Caffeine and Tobacco are more addictive and sweeteners & sugars are 10 times more addictive than cocaine or heroin . But where are these groups like PA family institute on this? And PA family institute has no problem telling other people how to live their lives and they cite studies by other Christian groups who are going to say what they want.

I’d like to legally smoke sometime…

  12. @joshuathechosen1 on June 24, 2024 at 10:46 am

The guy said more kids will start smoking witch it’s easily available regardless and it cuts out the risk of someone getting something with something in it

  13. @user-wl5hi4qf8s on June 24, 2024 at 10:46 am

Law makers are disconnected with pa residents. Some of them are just under educated.

  14. @tattoohick on June 24, 2024 at 10:50 am

I rether my kids smoke a joint then seeing them drink .

  16. @noonehere0987 on June 24, 2024 at 10:55 am

What debate? The only people who speak out against this now come from that low functioning prohibitionist group "Smart approaches" or whoever they are. They always peddle the same propaganda and nobody buys it. It’s comical how sad their attempts are.

  17. @gregmijjares3725 on June 24, 2024 at 10:57 am

  19. @iradorsey4771 on June 24, 2024 at 11:03 am

There will always be an black market in PA to get cannabis

  20. @giblet1618 on June 24, 2024 at 11:03 am

If you use the argument that by regulating this that children will have more access to it. Doesn’t that mean that the current regulatory system is ineffective?

  21. @anttosado7758 on June 24, 2024 at 11:03 am

PA is so slow while other states around us are legalizing it just like they said they’re missing out on tax revenue

  22. @tetsballer1835 on June 24, 2024 at 11:04 am

    420 blaze it

  23. @tllt4983 on June 24, 2024 at 11:05 am

Dan Bartkowiak needs to mind his own damn business and not worry about weed.. more people were killed by peanut butter this year than marijuana usage

  24. @MithrilMagic on June 24, 2024 at 11:08 am

So…as an 18 year old, you can vote, join the military to fight and potentially d*e for your country. You can purchase certain firearms and other weapons with no training required before or after purchasing. When you’re 21, you can go purchase cigarettes and other tobacco products, alcohol, including hard liquor…but you can’t legally buy a joint. Ok Pennsylvania, makes total sense. Keep up the great work on making sure you “protect our children.” I did social work for over 15 years and never in that time was marijuana an issue.

  25. @jchikes247 on June 24, 2024 at 11:10 am

Lol what debate? Like 95% of people want it legalized. Wake up PA

  26. @gercey3314 on June 24, 2024 at 11:11 am

if kids are the biggest hurdle here, which aren’t they always, then maybe its the ones who are taking care of the kids that need to be looked into. If a child has something they legally should not have, the parents should be looked into and dealt with accordingly. I’m tired of political figures being against something and their only argument is what aboutism about children while acting like parents are gods for just existing.

  27. @jamieyork3874 on June 24, 2024 at 11:11 am

Kids are already using I doubt they’d be able to get it from a dispo

  28. @brianhall1977 on June 24, 2024 at 11:12 am

if they was so worried about children then alcohol and cigs would still be illegal too.

  29. @Learn-more610 on June 24, 2024 at 11:12 am

Get addicted to fentynal instead, pot is too dangerous 🤡

  30. @mik_88 on June 24, 2024 at 11:14 am

Pennsylvania lawmakers are worse than Chinese dictators. Fake Republicans…. Don’t tread on me. It’s a God given plant.

  31. @nayrev on June 24, 2024 at 11:19 am

at this point, it’s just silly to not legalize it recreationally.

  32. @moe5809 on June 24, 2024 at 11:19 am

Humans have been smoking cannabis for thousands of years. These politicians are a joke

  33. @sodiloquacious911 on June 24, 2024 at 11:20 am

Approved by a doctor to get my card…don’t have ID less fortunate…went to go get some legally in NY 180 dollars worth and came home to be arrested…not read my rights…told to follow them to the station in our car…they themselves are putting us in danger by letting us drive and everything else while suspecting us of being high so why can’t we do it on our own time…also I came home with a 770 dollar fine and gotta take classes with crackheads now…my public defender tried telling me I wasn’t arrested multiple times just because of the fact that I wasn’t placed in handcuffs and willingly let myself be fingerprinted but I’m a bad person and a criminal now…these were state police officers who let us drive 2:30 hours home after we made it very clear of that while they suspected us of being high and told us to follow them in our car back to the station with no cuffs never was told I was under arrest or for what didn’t even feel like an arrest more so felt like them fucking me around

  34. @danielmoss8153 on June 24, 2024 at 11:24 am

    The Keystone state…hmm

  35. @Anglerallday on June 24, 2024 at 11:27 am

The kids are effected worse in illegal states. Usually they will be doing the trafficking or sales because the elders have harsher sentences when caught.
