Revive Your Old Seeds: How to Germinate Seeds Using Hydrogen Peroxide!

In this video, we’ll show you how to use hydrogen peroxide to revive old seeds and give them a new lease on life. Over time, seeds can lose their viability, but with a simple solution of hydrogen peroxide and water, you can stimulate germination and increase your chances of success. We’ll go over the step-by-step process of preparing the solution, soaking the seeds, and planting them, whether to soil or in tissue culture media.

Thanks mate, i used this on some old white sage seeds and one of them sprouted already.🎉

Great video! In the cannabis industry there are tons of people using carbonated water to germinate old seeds. Have you ever used this method and can you explain how it would help in assisting germination of older seeds??

  3. @charliemcgriff7643 on March 1, 2024 at 7:22 am

Hey friend does that method works for collards seeds?

  4. @majedalrajibi1409 on March 1, 2024 at 7:22 am

    3% H2O2 ?

  5. @TheDuckofDoom. on March 1, 2024 at 7:24 am

What type of gel media, are there any PGRs? I have seen GA3 used to help germination but that was a seed soak, similar to the peroxide, not used during and after germination.

  6. @XxemoX4lifex on March 1, 2024 at 7:25 am

I’m gonna try this. I’m having trouble with older baker creek pepper seeds. A few years old and 0% germination.. frustrating because they’re not cheap seeds

  7. @boblossie3192 on March 1, 2024 at 7:27 am

This is all GREAT information. I especially like that you broke the formula down to Ounces and Tablespoons. I multiplied that by 5 and made a batch that would just about fit in a 48oz glass bottle. Then I use that bottle to pour over the seeds to soak in 4 different jars and store the remainder of the mixture in a cabinet away form ALL light. THANK YOU FOR MAKING THIS SO EASY! AND I love that you mentioned it’s a good practice for old AND new seeds.

  8. @craig245 on March 1, 2024 at 7:28 am

Have you run a side-by-side with him without the sugar? My first impression would be that all the energy for germination is in the seed itself. Cheers

  9. @peterkando on March 1, 2024 at 7:29 am

What strength hydrogen peroxide, please. I have 35% food grade. What is the mixing ratio, please 🙏

  10. @plantsandgreenswithelicia on March 1, 2024 at 7:33 am

Hey Francisco, love the video. Question, did you use your general protocol for the peppers?

  11. @wshark23 on March 1, 2024 at 7:34 am

Great Video! I had one question, would this method work for very small seeds? I’m about to sow some old begonia seeds but the seeds are very small. They are about 2-9mm big and I wanted to see if this would work since I have mixed results with germinating in the past

    Looking nice bro

  13. @deepakbhartia8565 on March 1, 2024 at 7:44 am

How many days can we keep the seeds in this solution?

  14. @peterdickson2335 on March 1, 2024 at 7:48 am

Is this method applicable to oil palm seeds and coconut?

  15. @nocapitals9833 on March 1, 2024 at 7:48 am

it is hard to understand you, but it sounds like you said 1TBS of H202, 2 ounces of H2O and 1/4 TSP of sugar. this isn’t a 1:19 ratio because a tablespoon equals an ounce.

  16. @dingo5842 on March 1, 2024 at 7:48 am

What is the original concentration of H2O2 prior to dilution? I have seen 35% food grade, 6% pharmaceutical grade, and common 3%. For whatever reason, your video doesn’t specify (but it’s very important to know). Thank you for making this video.

  17. @xaviercruz4763 on March 1, 2024 at 7:49 am

If tap or bottle water is used i also saw results in that the seeds sprout after a day or two days

Hi , I’m Jason from Australia
I’ve been watching your videos and subscribe to your channel, but I’m still haven’t found anything regarding media and technical for cymbidium orchid green or dry pod plus mericlone with polyploid added colchicine or oryzalin to media . But most of the flask media in Australia that I have seen added charcoal.
It would greatly appreciated if there was videos covering these topics, as I’m in learning stage of doing my own flasking with a still air box with basic equipment.

    – number seed packets and test tubes appropriately
    – 10ml 3% hydrogen peroxide +190ml of distilled water + 1g of sugar
    – shake for 10 minutes?
    – seeds soak 24/48 hours in the freeform solution
    – carefully decanter liquid with partially opened lid
    – move seeds with sterilised tweezers
    – place seeds in tissue culture or soaked towels before transplanting to soil if growth isn’t great?

Questions, the test tube lids are air tight and the only oxygen is from the hydrogen peroxide? The water used for the seeds, simply discard each time or is there a better way of recycling the infused water? Size of tubes used?

If you use a pressure cooker to steralise your tubes in the rack do they need to be a particular type?

    Hi, great video!
I have question about disinfecting the seeds.

I use 15min soaking using 10% bleach + soap solution for disinfecting seeds now.
(I heard that is the standard method?)
I mainly do this because my batch of seeds have high probability of fungi development.

Would hydrogen peroxide do both disinfecting seeds and revitalizing them?
Or, should I do my normal method of disinfection and hydrogen peroxide treatment later?

  21. @adctex on March 1, 2024 at 7:59 am

I have several hundred 3-4 yr old daylily seeds. They have been in refrigerator for three or more years. Some I have been able to germinate, but most will turn moldy and not sprout. I want to try your method using the solution with the sugar in it to see it that improves the germination rate…. One other thing… PLEASE slow down on your speech in the videos… Try not to talk so fast as it is difficult to keep up and understand your presentation when you speak very fast 🙂

  22. @carlosbautista-alvarez6759 on March 1, 2024 at 8:00 am

If seeds aren’t old can we still use this formula?

  23. @berniefisher9472 on March 1, 2024 at 8:03 am

Thank you so much. Can i use rain water instead of distilled water. Am going to try it on my foxtail palm seeds.

  24. @indianb1918 on March 1, 2024 at 8:05 am

Can you add Gibberellic acid acid to hydrogen peroxide solution and if so how many grams of Gibberellic acidd powder to mix to the hydrogen peroxide solution ?

This will work with old strawberries seeds?

  27. @charliemcgriff7643 on March 1, 2024 at 8:07 am

Hey friend will it work for 4 or 5 years old collards greens

  28. @Sam9wilson9 on March 1, 2024 at 8:09 am

    Solid!

  29. @VeggieBeard on March 1, 2024 at 8:10 am

I have seen and used H2O2 for the scarification of seeds. I have not left them until they germinated. I will have to give that a try. Shave days or weeks off germination would be excellent, especially for peppers in zones with a short season and limited space indoors to start early.

I am curious, though, what was in the cups he transferred the sprouted seeds to. Was that just water, or was that also the solution they sprouted in.

If it was just water he transferred them to, would the solution harm the sprouted seedlings if they were left in it.

In the second video, these questions are still not answered either. Please clarify. Thanks.

    Peroxide adds oxygen
    And sugar give nutrients.
    Done

  31. @vivekn7797 on March 1, 2024 at 8:11 am

What is the strength of the hydrogen peroxide solution?

  32. @danieljheelan5256 on March 1, 2024 at 8:13 am

    Hi Francisco,

Hope you and your team are fine?

    Thanks for sharing.
I use this method for orchids seeds.

What you do if you get contaminations in your flasks due to seeds sterilization.

    You sterilize again?

    Thanks for your reply.

1% of 200g solution is 2g, so did you mean to say 0.5% sugar or 2g sugar?
