Should high-potency cannabis products be regulated differently in Washington state?

At Hashtag Cannabis, one segment of the business is quickly growing.

High-potency products now make up around 30% of the store’s sales. These products contain cannabis concentrate that’s four to six times more potent than cannabis flower.

More lawmakers are now paying attention. Washington Rep. Lauren Davis is on her fifth try to get legislation through Olympia to limit access to high-potency cannabis. She said we should learn from the opioid epidemic and act before we have a schizophrenia epidemic.

Her bill cleared the House, but it was dramatically weakened. Davis would like to see the age to buy high-potency products raised to 25—when a person’s brain is fully developed. Her version of this bill last year called for higher taxes.

Meth is a schedule 2 drug while marijuana is a schedule 1 drug according to the government. Vote blue no matter who.

  2. @Lileigh980 on February 25, 2024 at 5:45 am

If its legalized then legalize it 100%.

  3. @midnite-chowboy on February 25, 2024 at 5:47 am

Those numbers don’t mean very much. It all depends on the user and a lot of the time 30% flower will get you higher than 90% concentrate. Washington cannabis laws are already archaic, they don’t even allow you to grow your own like other states. State oversight is ok for regulating safety eg. no pesticide’s, but keep their hands off other areas and let us grow our own. I liked my home grown better than store bought.

If underage people are getting hands on cannabis they’re buying it probably from someone who may put other drugs in the cannabis who knows.

Schizophrenia is a very real problem with prolonged marijuana use and DUI a real danger to us all.

Raise the age to 25 then. I need products like RSO for pain management. I use it responsibly. I am 54 years of age and use cannabis for a medical condition, not for fun. Cannabis is more effective, more controlable, and more effective than opoids for those of us who have severe pain and are not chasing a high.

"the benefits of cannabis" Lol. The only benefit of Cannabis is taxation.

  9. @ZoeKatherineProject on February 25, 2024 at 6:09 am

PLEASE let us suffering from MS like myself or going through chemo and stuff let us have our weed. It’s one of the best medicines to get through periphial neuropathy, pain that doesnt respond to opiods. Idk I MISS THE OLD DAYS BEFORE 2012. MEDICAL WAS SO MUCH MORE ACCESSIBLE AND I NEVER SMOKED VAPES BACK THEN.

Always keeping that conversation around restrictions. This is why plant science and cannabis knowledge is so important

  11. @Carrollavirus on February 25, 2024 at 6:10 am

Regulate cannabis, but totally allow open drug use with deadly drugs like fentanyl in public places.
    The dystopia is astounding.

  12. @cloverconnections on February 25, 2024 at 6:14 am

I had an overdose on high thc cannabis… It’s true. I thought I was having a stroke. Do the research and not just go by your own simple assumptions.

  13. @toditron on February 25, 2024 at 6:14 am

Stop drumming up BS scary stories. You may as well warn about "Refer Madness".

  14. @mclockwork777 on February 25, 2024 at 6:15 am

    F*ck Off More Regulations!

  15. @user-ze9hg5wz9z on February 25, 2024 at 6:24 am

Figure out the opioid epidemic first??

  16. @jimjr6919 on February 25, 2024 at 6:25 am

NO!!! Leave it alone! As a medical patient i need the 96% THC for eating and sleeping…is Hard Alcohol regulated different??

  17. @_GuyInTheChair on February 25, 2024 at 6:26 am

Racy highs are a thing. Anxiety prone people can have panic attacks if too much is consumed. People with undiagnosed schizophrenia can have it triggered or whatever. But cannabis induced psychosis sounds like someone couldn’t handle their shit and freaked out

  18. @S.V.TeFiti on February 25, 2024 at 6:26 am

high potent is better you dont have to smoke the flower and carbon fill your lungs…. he was crazy before admit it lady

  19. @leiag201 on February 25, 2024 at 6:27 am

I’ll be honest. Some of the BUNKEST weed I ever bought, I bought at my local marijuana retailer. It tasted like crap, it smoked like it wasn’t even marijuana, and it gave me a goddamn headache. I never bought anymore. I just get a simple cartridge for my vape pen, and that’s it. Can’t wait to find a street dealer for some REAL weed!!!

  20. @Supermanpowersunited on February 25, 2024 at 6:28 am

Actually a good 20% flower is more enjoyable than any dab or carts. Dab and carts make it where flower wont get you as high as like me i dont dab or use any carts. Flower 30% thc isnt that much better, you just gonna burn it anyway.

  21. @Purebloodedbabe on February 25, 2024 at 6:31 am

Yes it’s making people seriously sick and psychotic- speaking as a big timer in the cannabis industry

  22. @user-ze9hg5wz9z on February 25, 2024 at 6:32 am

    Bull💩

  23. @Carrollavirus on February 25, 2024 at 6:33 am

    ‘Cannabis induced psychosis’ yeah right.
    Lmao.

  24. @barkeyes8592 on February 25, 2024 at 6:35 am

If you are a rookie pot smoker you cannot freak out your mind and body by high dosing. You have to slowly work your way up. Think Mount Everest.

  25. @claytonnelson9503 on February 25, 2024 at 6:36 am

    Government already controls too much!!!

  26. @melissasmess2773 on February 25, 2024 at 6:36 am

The Devils salad, people go into their basement, vape and I never see them again at the bar. 😢

  27. @arthurnieves102 on February 25, 2024 at 6:41 am

Her fellow Democratic constituents all have some kind of investment in the cannabis business, whether it’s legal or gray area
