Tesla's Battery Revolution / Double Range / Cheaper Price

Tesla's Battery Revolution / Double Range / Cheaper Price

Representing Tesla’s so-called “Roadrunner” project, which promises significant increase in battery’s performance. The company that has acquired Maxwell technologies, is going to make its own battery cells which will be designed for a million miles of operation. The new battery will be cheaper to produce or will provide double range for Tesla vehicles. Let’s wait to see more details at Tesla’s Battery event.

I own shares of Tesla since $55, I need more people (i.e. suckers) to buy its products, just like Apple. Luckily there are a lot of free reviews and information on Youtube. Thanks for your efforts.

I am more than happy with the current model 3 SR range. How about making the car lighter with a new, smaller battery

So exciting to think about this kind of stuff. We think things are impressive now, just wait

Sorry. $100k with a 5 year lifespan are not economically viable. The software support is only for 5 years. These vehicles have no need of better batteries. Only an idiot or PLUTOCRAT would buy an EV.

  8. Jean Dard on October 14, 2023 at 11:09 pm

electric cars should be as small as possible and the ranges too .. why do people need such long range cars. the fascination for tech progress is extremely futile. we should be concerned about saving saving saving …. moving less and less. low tech cars are the future. tesla cars are not disruptive at all. they are exactly like normal cars

  9. airbreath on October 14, 2023 at 11:14 pm

Yes, let me tell you Tesla better step up it’s game to compete with other auto manufacturers lmao……

  10. Anthony Mendoza on October 14, 2023 at 11:14 pm

650 mile range will do it. Cars need to be able to drive about 4 hours on a refuel with some buffer. That is why ICE cars size their gas tanks for 350 mile range so that is our goal. EVs practically can only be charged to about 80%. 650 x .8 = 520 miles (really good), but that is in summer. In winter in North Dakota, EVs will only get about 60% of that range or 312 miles which doesn’t look like enough until we consider that ICE cars also lose about 12% of their range ending at about 310 miles or the same as that Tesla. Bye, bye ICE cars.

We all know right. This is how they achieve the new roadster performance. The battery power goes so far and it also has capacitors to quick bursts of power. This is how I imagined this will go about 5 years ago … also, I think this can be also applied retroactively just as you would stage a normal ICE. This is becoming interestiiiiing.

It looks like you should holdout buying any current Tesla until the new battery is released.
I for one will wait until then.

  14. T S on October 14, 2023 at 11:17 pm

I think the most likely scenario is a moderate upgrade in range while reducing overall battery size. This is the best way to maximize profit margins. They can decrease the amount of material used for batteries (and weight) while at the same time giving more range so they can get more value from less material. Increasing value while decreasing costs.

WHEN is this miracle EVER going to happen??? I’m 66 1/2 years old, should I expect this in my LIFETIME??? Oh right, it will cost more than most houses in the US too, with $1 a gallon gas returning…

Tesla for now is not moving forward with solid state batteries. Too expensive to mass produce at the moment. But after acquiring Maxwell, Tesla has been secretly working on Dry Electrode Batteries. According to Maxwell, the technology is currently at a stage where a Model 3, for instance, can have at least 20% more range which will bring the range close to 500 miles per charge!

It took 50 years for horses to be replaced by cars. Perspective. Even in WW2 horses were the main form of transport for the Wehrmacht.

I drive a Toyota hybrid it’s electric drive and it’s fantastic.
Apart from in snow …in snow it is by far the very very very very worst car I have EVER driven.
But other than that it’s great.
Once they stop pilocking about and create a decent battery the internal combustion engine is finished.

  25. Marcus Lang on October 14, 2023 at 11:27 pm

Are the 650mi projection based on the same test, that says "Tesla 3 has 327mi epa", whereas everybody knows it cannot do more than 240mi on highway trips (with moderate 70mph speedlimit; not the 80 mph interstate highways)??

1 million robot taxis should be on the streets now – according to Musk 🙂
TESLA has made a loss for 17 years in a row and has been bailed out many times by share holders. Look what the "e-Tron" of AUDI has done to the sales figures of Model X in the main markets of Europe! And next: PORSCHE TAYCAN versus Model S, VW ID3 versus Model S, VW ID4 versus Model Y.

  28. Raptorman0909 on October 14, 2023 at 11:30 pm

Nothing in the new battery developments justify a 2X increase in range for a battery of the same mass — maybe a 20% increase but not 100%. In order to double the range you either need double the battery, double the energy density, or some combination of increased battery size and energy density. Physics isn’t moved by bullshit!

  29. Dave Lewis on October 14, 2023 at 11:30 pm

No one talks about the increase in car performance being way lighter! Also should go farther on a charge because the overall car weight will be less and therefore taking less energy to accelerate.

    Hydrogenation is most important today
EV vehicle to costly & Dangerous…
    Hydrogen cell is perfect option..
    It’s naturally
    Battery cell is more Dangerous
    & not recycled option…
    It’s limited…
Battery cell again & again charging program..
    Electricity is limited source.& costly
    Hydrogen get naturally & unlimited

Thanks for this review. I did some analysis on my channel of Tesla’s scale and balance of plant across the Model 3, Y, and Cybertruck. I think you’re right that 3rd party supply is a drag on cost reductions. Tesla has already overcome this.

  32. Aaron Zoom on October 14, 2023 at 11:35 pm

Tesla’s are still far too expensive and are luxury cars, Volkswagen entering the electric car market with their ID series is finally going to bring some real competition to the EV market allowing the average consumer to be able to buy the car without needing to take a loan.

  46. Cerad on October 14, 2023 at 11:53 pm

Cheaper batteries imply increased profits, not less expensive cars. Likewise, higher capacity batteries imply fewer batteries per car, not longer range per car.
