Texas Marijuana Laws | Is Weed Legal in Texas? | Weed in Texas with Texas NORML and DFW NORML

While their neighbors in Oklahoma made over $400 million in cannabis revenue in 2020, consumers in Texas could face up to 180 days in prison for holding a single joint. Today we’re joined by Jax Finkel from Texas NORML and Eric Espinoza from DFW NORML to discuss Texas cannabis laws and strategies for cannabis policy advancement.

Who’s running Texas?! Gov Greg Grabbitt and Lt Gov Dan Patrick! Both are anti-cannabis and hopefully both will be gone in 2022!!
Wow! The Sheriff’s running the show?!? I am sure most of them are more interested in a jelly doughnut than learning about the benefits of cannabis and the endocannabinoid system!

  16. michael stapell on May 15, 2022 at 6:45 pm

This was sent to every elected official in State of Texas Government
14 Reasons why Texas should legalize Cannabis
    1. The Texas Compassionate Use Act sucks
    2. Support of Law Enforcement multiple ways
    3. Cessation of supporting Cartels
    4. Two Revenue streams Taxes and Impoundment (Seizure)
    5. Will of the people
    6. Not harmful
    7. Not Addictive
    8. Medicinal benefits
    9. Economic expansion more jobs a (replacement economy given the future down turn of hydrocarbons)
    10. Will benefit Farmers and Businesses and Entrepreneurs equally.
    11. Replaces the addictive remedies of Alcohol, Opioids, and Narcotics.
    12. A less violent society.
    13. A more lawful society.
    14. The State of Texas will finally be able to fund Departments adequately IE: C.P.S., D.P.S., D.O.C. and the Fire Marshal’s office to name a few and maybe even treat State Employees better!

The Compassionate use act is neither compassionate nor useable. There has been such a terrible job done creating and revising the Compassionate Use Act the Texas Legislature may never get it right.

It will bring clarity to law enforcement. The police are faced with how do I enforce a law that is on the books as illegal, yet possession of a very similar product (Hemp) is legal and then depending upon what county that officer is in, The D.A. may or may not be taking those cases. Although I don’t agree with that method, (D.A.’s legislating) (Doing your job for you). The result is you are supporting Cartels!

By not legalizing it and THEN enforcing the TAX law, Seizing bootleg Cannabis (and simultaneously enforcing and removing from society other HARD (Addicting) Drugs and Human Traffickers. The State enjoys a revenue stream on not only from taxation but from seized bootleg (Now Legal) Marijuana that the State wholesales to the market. That ladies and gentlemen is good government. It becomes a revenue stream for Local, State and maybe even Federal Law Enforcement that would seize Bootleg Marijuana (Not Taxed Yet) send it to Texas Labs for testing of Safety and potency then turn it into a revenue stream. This is my Master’s Degree in Government Management talking but why don’t you see that?

A supermajority of the public wants this legalized. That alone should be enough because you are supposed to represent the people’s will.

It’s not harmful when smoked because of an immediate onset which stomach ingestion of an intoxicant can cause a person to take too much of, if its alcohol or opioids your stop breathing. How many Frat party deaths have there been from someone smoking too much Marijuana? ZERO! It doesn’t affect your respiratory center like depressants. As a veteran law enforcement officer (master certified) as well as being a licensed Paramedic, I personally would rather deal with a person who has smoked too much weed to be out in public, than a person who drank too much alcohol to be out in public. Alcohol more negatively affects people’s minds; thought processes; and actions. We were always more likely to have to fight a drunk guy! It is the drunken guy who is asleep at an intersection, or when on the highway, is the wrong way driver. It is the drunken guy who beats his wife. It is the guys on Meth and Crack and all the other addictive substances who are committing armed robberies and murders or subsequently dying themselves. Marijuana in many circumstances replaces something that is addictive and let’s not forget that marijuana is NOT addictive.
A more lawful society in that our citizens will not have to break the law to enjoy their intoxicant of choice. Cannabis is a healthier choice over any of the other addictive options or pain meds.
I know that your stance has been we don’t have the science to support a change. First of all, whose fault is that? The answer to that are the Federal and State governments, who continue to link Marijuana with other drugs (like Heroin) that are harmful and addictive.
The State of Texas is pretty High ranking when it comes to collegiate education and very low ranking when it comes to some basic necessary services such as Child Protective Services or health care for those below the poverty line. That too could change as a result of more revenue from a new source.

  17. Jossie Hernandez on May 15, 2022 at 6:46 pm

Me and my fiancé tested positive for marijuana and we are being reviewed because according to them it’s not legal so they can take our kids away because they see it as us doing drugs and not being able to function or take care of our children when it’s not even the way they see it

  18. Patrick Roepke on May 15, 2022 at 6:48 pm

Check out this fact about Texas………. Fun fact- I can go to a Texas methadone clinic and be given 150mg dose also depending on your status can be given a week or a months worth take home doses 30-150mg bottles. 38. SKULLY MACK on May 15, 2022 at 7:12 pm

Texas Republican Politicians are quite comfortable with the amount of money they collect from jailing mostly blacks and, hispanics for minor weed offenses and, getting the privatized jail kick back cash they set up long ago as well as, continuing their FAKE CHRISTIAN VALUES LIE (EVERY MINORITY FELON CREATED IS ONE LESS POTENTIAL DEMOCRATIC VOTER OF THE FUTURE)… Texans do not have the right to vote for themselves on the issue (IMAGINE THAT) which leaves it to the corrupt racist Republicans who are smoking as they please at the mansion daily. Surrounding legal states politicians are laughing at our elected fools all the way to the bank as they watch their weekend weed tourists pile in by the thousands to spend millions to enjoy what every state with a brain has now accepted…Texas Law Enforcement doesn’t seem to care one way or, the other about weed – They just do the job asked of them by these CLOWNS!
