Since Marc Emery set up shop in 1994, this area of Vancouver has become known as “The Pot Block” and is currently home to a number of seed dealers and other pot-friendly stores. Come visit us and experience “Vansterdam”!

STORE HISTORY

The Cannabis Culture Store has gone through many names over the years. First founded by Marc Emery in 1994 as HEMP BC, the store was located in a small space across the street from the current location. HEMP BC was the first and only store in Canada at the time where anyone could buy bongs, pipes, grow books and marijuana seeds.

Marc Emery led a nationwide retail revolution, encouraging others to open similar shops across Canada, and providing wholesale products to get them started. Repeated raids in 1996, 1997 and 1998 eventually led to the store closing for a time. However, in 2001 the store re-opened as the headquarters for the BC Marijuana Party, and was known as the BCMP Bookstore.

In 2007, the store changed the name again to reflect its range of products and the historical significance of the building (as well as to coordinate with Marc Emery’s Cannabis Culture Magazine), and is now known as Marc Emery’s Cannabis Culture Headquarters, or CCHQ.

Since Marc Emery’s extradition to the US and imprisonment in a federal penitentiary for selling marijuana seeds, Marc’s wife Jodie has taken over as owner and operator of the business and as a passionate advocate for marijuana legalization.

CCHQ is the #1 place to find everything related to the cannabis culture! Visit us 364 days of the year (we’re only closed on Christmas day).

We have everything you need but the weed!

Oh yes they did. That is exactly what happened. We had friends from FLA and it was embarrassing. That was just before Marc left. They said "No smoking during the day because of bylaw inspectors. "

IS MARC OUT OF PRISON ?!?

  8. Pot TV on May 16, 2022 at 4:32 pm

No one told you that at our place. We smoke joints and pipes at the BCMP offices all day.

  9. kendo512 on May 16, 2022 at 4:33 pm

The "legalize it" on your car window is probably only going to attract unwanted police attention.

  10. kushbats on May 16, 2022 at 4:33 pm

    NIce!!!

  11. Big Smoke on May 16, 2022 at 4:34 pm

I come here all the time. My favourite place to light up and sit back after a long day. The staff is super helpful and great. It’s like a second home to me.

  13. Myk Robertson on May 16, 2022 at 4:35 pm

wish there was more shops like this cross canada, wish they legalize it so the hassle and games for getting my card is over, after 7 years of trying to get my card they oped to give me man made "THC" pills but nothing beats the real deal

  14. Aussie GlassConnect on May 16, 2022 at 4:35 pm

    Legendary Establishment. Free Marc Emery!

  15. The Bohemian Luciferian Witch on May 16, 2022 at 4:35 pm

I wore my "Free Marc" shirt to the polls yesterday and I wear my legalization shirts quite often, especially on campus when I’m at classes. I don’t tip-toe around anyone, even on campus. 🙂

wow you guys have some cool stuff i LOVE the urban shaman part! what type of herbs do you sell

  19. DrOfWelshMagic on May 16, 2022 at 4:41 pm

    me too

  20. Matt South on May 16, 2022 at 4:41 pm

WRONG that’s the RIGHT kind of attention. People should not have to sneak around and be afraid about there pot use. If you are doing things right in life and not being a fucktard then pot should be the last thing cops need to worry about.

  21. Gandalf Herbmaster on May 16, 2022 at 4:42 pm

I used to buy weed from bikers on the second floor and shrooms from the third. The luxury of a walk-in shroom dispensary was awesome, too bad they had to change shit

  22. The Bohemian Luciferian Witch on May 16, 2022 at 4:42 pm

He’s exactly right. That’s what happened with my brother after he put one on. It sucks, but cops are like that. The closest thing I’d probably put on mine is one of the "Free Marc" stickers. That’s about it.

  23. stumpjumper on May 16, 2022 at 4:48 pm

    this is heaven

  25. Itsmeeman1 on May 16, 2022 at 4:51 pm

Are the clothes in the shop made from hemp? Kind of defeats the point if they’re not.

  26. systm1111 on May 16, 2022 at 4:52 pm

    THAT is a head shop.

  27. kendo512 on May 16, 2022 at 4:55 pm

Look, I agree with you that it should not be the case. But it is the case. If you put a sticker on your car advertising your cannabis use, then you’re going to attract police attention. You may think it’s the "right kind of attention", but really, you’re just fucking yourself over when they bust you for having weed in your car. I’m totally for the legalization movement, and civil disobedience, but flagging yourself down for a potential DUI is stupidity.

  28. heroesandcons09 on May 16, 2022 at 4:55 pm

I’m going to be in vancouver next summer I really want to go there.

    5 years for Emery…lulz

Look how peaceful this building is. So damn silly.

  31. J V on May 16, 2022 at 4:58 pm

I put a huge legalize letter on my rear window of the car and blacked it out green and bought half a dozen legalization shirts that i wear everyday now. Im done tip toeing around scared of what misinformed people think.

  32. Alkohollokaust on May 16, 2022 at 4:59 pm

theres a reason why the marijuana legalization initiatives in Colorado, Washington, Oregon, and California were NOT called the "legalize marijuana act".

  33. T on May 16, 2022 at 5:02 pm

    legalize it in florida!!!!

  34. Pot TV on May 16, 2022 at 5:02 pm

First of all, were you in the Amsterdam Cafe (street-level shop/cafe, not owned by us at all)? The Amsterdam Cafe doesn’t allow people to smoke during the day, only in the evening.

Secondly, just before Marc was extradited to the USA, the city was trying to shut down our store and lounge. So for a couple days (out of the seven years we’ve had a lounge operating), we had to keep some things discreet because there were bylaw officers inspecting our place. I’m sorry you were so miserable that day.

  35. Martin Kallas on May 16, 2022 at 5:04 pm

Fuck… that was very cool xDxDxD

  36. chiliwack44 on May 16, 2022 at 5:04 pm

It sounds like they have got the situation back up to speed then. On a more positive note – if Obama loses in 2 weeks – he will likely follow the tradition of Presidents pardoning a lot of people who deserve to be out of prison. It could be good news for the prince.

    Peace

This is an awesome tour. I’m so so so upset that I was living there for a year and never made it to the headquarters to visit. My intentions were to drop by to say hi and to hopefully meet Jodie. This will have to do because now I’m living in the USA and can’t travel until I get my immigration status changed. I won a FREE MARC T-Shirt and I wear it proudly. ~Cheers~ B.Champagne

dont call it "legalize", call it repeal prohibition or regulate marijuana. No one said "legalize alcohol" during alcohol prohibition. "legalization" sounds too scary to some people, they think its a free for all where its legal for kids and legal to drive stoned.
