Why Andretti is interested in buying Sauber's F1 team

Rumours have gathered pace that Michael Andretti’s team – Andretti Autosport – could be taking a place on the F1 grid in the near future by buying into Sauber. In this video Scott Mitchell explains the details of those rumours, why Andretti is interested, how it can afford it, and why this looks like a good time to get your foot in the door if you have the means to own an F1 entry.

Honda leaving is a blow to the series.

  2. @TipOfTheSpear907 on December 16, 2023 at 2:10 am

We need four new team in f1 and Toyota on that list

  3. @Joopyter724 on December 16, 2023 at 2:13 am

Step 1 be in failing f1 team
    Step 2 move to indycar
Step 3 convince team boss to buy f1 team
    Step 4 profit

  4. @obsidian.... on December 16, 2023 at 2:13 am

    Lol this is fully fabricated

  5. @frankhart2188 on December 16, 2023 at 2:15 am

We safe the teams from themselves with a budget cap of $US145 mio. But before we gonna safe you, you need to pay $US 200 mio to us. Yepp, right.

  6. @victorimmature on December 16, 2023 at 2:16 am

yanks are running the show now , need to introduce some ovals to make it indi 2 , andretti would be happy then .

  7. @rhystight9519 on December 16, 2023 at 2:17 am

Would it not make more sense to buy Haas they seem to be actively looking to sell and would be cheaper to buy and already has the American link and doesn’t get rid of the iconic Alfa Romeo / Sauber names from F1

  8. @jimsperlakis5634 on December 16, 2023 at 2:18 am

Please, Bring it On Andretti, please.

  9. @lukebylsma9243 on December 16, 2023 at 2:23 am

    HERTAMANIA

  10. @JohnDeereA219 on December 16, 2023 at 2:24 am

While I think Herta could be competitive in F1, I feel that it would be better for him to have 1 more full season in Indycar to grow prior to a move. Especially if he would also have a shot to be a reserve/test driver while doing Indycar full time.

  11. @formulafan4428 on December 16, 2023 at 2:27 am

Just what I needed after this day to make it a bit better. Formula video + listening to the music I like (Delta Parole, Metallica and other) make me feel the speed and excitement!

  12. @sgtpepperboi6851 on December 16, 2023 at 2:29 am

I’d like to see Andretti bring the Sauber name back, as the Sauber Andretti F1 Team. Then Alfa Romeo create their own team, and we have 22 cars.

  13. @petezaria9409 on December 16, 2023 at 2:29 am

Well. Andretti wasn’t much of a F1 driver, but as an owner, I’m looking forward to this.

  14. @josiahtibbets4622 on December 16, 2023 at 2:29 am

Andretti signed Romain Grojean, maybe he comes back???

  15. @tenzoorbeta3538 on December 16, 2023 at 2:30 am

If this happens Bottas is fkked again. Alfa Romeo is getting better and it’s much traditional car for an car F1

  16. @Horny-Hog on December 16, 2023 at 2:31 am

But the Alfa Romeo paint job? ….

  17. @CasualRicer on December 16, 2023 at 2:32 am

If Andretti came in, it would be cool for them to add a team instead of taking one over regardless. Also HAAS needs to drop the Russians

  18. @DazzaTravelStories on December 16, 2023 at 2:34 am

I can’t listen to that annoying voice past 5:50 ahhhhh

  19. @TheSwanlake2009 on December 16, 2023 at 2:35 am

If he could also bring Ford Cosworth back too.

  20. @albertor8616 on December 16, 2023 at 2:36 am

Why not just expand the grid !!!

  21. @RRaquello on December 16, 2023 at 2:37 am

Maybe it’s seen as an investment. They buy the team now in hopes of holding on to it for a few years, then selling it at a profit in the future. This is seen frequently in North American team sports, where a buyer will take over a team in a major league sport, and might lose money each year while owning the team, but then sell it at a huge profit a few years after buying.

As an American race fan, though, I’d rather see the work going into strengthening our own racing series than taking a hopeless flyer in Formula One, and I’d rather see Herta stay in IndyCar, where there are few high profile American drivers, than see him in a back marker car in Formula One. Nobody in the US is going to care about an American driver in F1 if he’s racing for 18th place every week. Maybe instead of bringing an already established big name star, who is important in the US as an audience draw, give the opportunity to an American driver already in Europe, like Logan Sargeant, and see what he can do. Then it is addition without subtraction.

  22. @jpikspiks2067 on December 16, 2023 at 2:39 am

To bad, deal didn’t go through.

Btw, If ever Andretti will be able to buy an F1 team wouldn’t that mean a chance for Grosjean to be back at F1? I mean his driving for them at IndyCar 2022 season anyways.

  23. @ozzizgod on December 16, 2023 at 2:39 am

Why would Herta want to leave IRL where he has won 6 times to join F1 where he won’t even score 6 points?

  24. @VonBlade on December 16, 2023 at 2:43 am

Unless you were watching F1 in the late 70s, and even I only started in 79, then the ‘Andretti name value’ is solely Michaels terrible McLaren year.

  25. @gikari3703 on December 16, 2023 at 2:43 am

"So, Mr. Andretti, why did you choose to buy Sauber?" "Why not?"

  26. @stevengrayston1715 on December 16, 2023 at 2:45 am

Michael Andretti had unfinished business in F1 he was treated like crap by McLaren

  27. @KSLEE17 on December 16, 2023 at 2:46 am

Would love to Have an American Team on grid with at least one American Driver!

  28. @oldopexpert6869 on December 16, 2023 at 2:46 am

MY PATRIOT SENSES ARE GOING OFF WHATS HAPPENING?!?!🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲

  29. @Sum_Ting_Wong on December 16, 2023 at 2:48 am

All these years we have been hearing of Sauber’s high tech wind tunnel but they’ve consistently produced aerodynamically ineffecient cars year on year…..

  30. @borobrews9297 on December 16, 2023 at 2:50 am

If Andretti does buy in, they need to make a two seater Fi car and easily make 100M from the worlds rich who want a ride. Mario will drive it.

  31. @Glinty_ on December 16, 2023 at 2:51 am

Andretti-Alfa Romeo sounds like an interesting team name tbf. I hope that happens

  32. @aetfggdgdfgret on December 16, 2023 at 2:52 am

Andretti is far from being the top team in Indycar. They have the money and that’s the only thing they are focusing on, not really on success.

  33. @norberthofer5830 on December 16, 2023 at 2:54 am

Andretti has a first rate operation in the US but that is child’s play compared to Formula One. He’ll get smoked like Haas F1 has and after spending other people’s money to get his kid into F1, he will go home in shame again.

  34. @northamericanintercontinen3207 on December 16, 2023 at 2:56 am

    Andretti Sauber Alfa Romeo

Any idea in how to mix those names into a single one to capture the legendary status they all have?

  35. @OPgiSh0tzonYT on December 16, 2023 at 2:56 am

I want Alfa/Sauber to stay, and 3 new teams to join!

  36. @johnireland1629 on December 16, 2023 at 2:56 am

Nice if it happens. But I wonder what he is thinking in terms of staff and pit crew and all the necessary stuff needed. That’s all above and beyond purchase prices.

  37. @konzekuenze on December 16, 2023 at 2:57 am

Any new team is more than welcome, but I really mean NEW, not a rebadge of a existing one.

  38. @philrussell1094 on December 16, 2023 at 2:58 am

I remember 26 cars on grid, frickin awesome

  39. @tayf85 on December 16, 2023 at 2:59 am

I see a lot of people complaining about new entrants buying out existing teams rather than establishing a new team. The problem is it would be very difficult and very risky to start a team from scratch. You need people who have experience working in F1. You don’t have access to that talent pool in the USA, it’s mostly in England. You need supplier relationships for parts and manufacturing. You need systems and tooling. Note that everyone’s favourite German team is still headquartered in Britain (Merced was originally Tyrrell).

  40. @johnpritchard7722 on December 16, 2023 at 3:00 am

If they do buy in , hope it’s better than the Haas rubbish

  41. @matthewmckenzie504 on December 16, 2023 at 3:00 am

    Yes Andretti Very Much So

  42. @unknown-jx5yt on December 16, 2023 at 3:01 am

NO, they dont need to go to F1. F1 is rigged and too political, as evidenced by the corrupt gifting of the championship to dirty max verstappen.

  43. @davidp.7620 on December 16, 2023 at 3:02 am

The 200M fee is a joke. What kind of competition has an entry fee higher than the budget allowed for an entire season?

  44. @michealberry995 on December 16, 2023 at 3:03 am

The best part is they wouldn’t sign that China driver, who is only getting a seat with dirty China money
    Never trust China

  45. @user-zh9kc7tw4n on December 16, 2023 at 3:03 am

Did Andretti not just signed Roman G as well for its Indy team…

  46. @AZAFVET on December 16, 2023 at 3:04 am

I am very excited to see the possibility of the Andretti name back in F1. I have been a fan of the Andretti racing family since the early 60’s. ALthough I might prefer to have Andretti form a new team, that might cause him to not be successful in F1 for many years.

  47. @Erik-rp1hi on December 16, 2023 at 3:05 am

How important are the TV and crowd revenue, 15% of gross. Stickers on cars, 20%? Prize money 10%?

  48. @leongt1954 on December 16, 2023 at 3:05 am

Interesting if Andretti dose buy into F1 seeing how Zac Brown at McLaren is a silent partner with Andretti in the v8 supercar team

  49. @7mmalltheway on December 16, 2023 at 3:06 am

Don’t even dream to buy the team without competitive engine supply contract. I don’t want to see Michael Andretti in 1993 again. It will hurt Americans’ pride.

  50. @paulb2608 on December 16, 2023 at 3:07 am
