Why Hygiene Has Changed Over the Decades (People Washed Only One Body Part!)
Time traveler, stock your backpack with your favorite hygiene essentials because we’re living in the best time ever for cleanliness! Don’t forget your toothpaste! Some ancient civilizations used a mixture of gum Arabic and soot to keep their teeth clean. That, or a mix of the salt, mint, iris flower, and pepper. One dentist tried this combo to see how it works. Let’s just say, didn’t feel good on the gums!
About 5,000 years ago, people in Egypt and Greece would fray a small twig to clean in between their teeth. A few centuries later, soap appeared! It was a mix of boiled fat and ash. In such hot climates, people would wash their bodies up to 4 times a day, using soda ash to get rid of dirt. And Romans are better known for their public restrooms. To make “clean-up” easier, the Romans would fix a sponge at the end of a stick. By the way, they’d share that thing amongst themselves! Let’s find out more about what hygiene was like in the past. How did the ancients clean themselves?

Bidet is the way of life
Americans are known not to shower frequently…Latino people do it once or even twice a day ! 😀
Asians can’t relate with the "tissue paper". We wash ourselves with soap and water, and we have bidets.
I’m glad to be born in the shower era. Can’t imagine how life was like without shower🙅♂️
WHAT YEAR DID SHAVING BEGIN ?
They use coal to brush its a best trick to have a nice selfie with white theet
You forgot the bidet. Thanks to that, I did not have to worry about the toilet paper shortage.
Glad we been bathing and brushing our teeth in Africa since time immemorial
Before you judge, remind that maybe future people will be as disgusted at our hygienic routines

as someone with OCD who prides himself on cleanliness this video was horrifying 😂 STICKS?!
Fool get things correct.. it was India who fist started a proper water management system…
It doesn’t beg the question. It raises the question. Begging the question refers to circular reasoning.
PSA people with vaginas, don’t use anything scented to wash with, it can cause irritation and infections!!
Hey there! Do you take a shower in the morning or at night?
Shame not one mentioning about muslims washing themselves and the usage of hamams already for centuries and let alone the water irrigation systems they already had.
Asians dont need toilet paper we have bidets and water and soap for that
I’m going to have a shower and brush my teeth right now!
So the west invaded and took all hygiene stuff from the India.
I’m thinking of every possible movie and anime that made me want to live back then, and after hearing this…
this is too west centered
Guess what your kissing when your kissing the Blarney Stone?
Lucky China was included, usually anything produced in the west just skips over everything except Greece, Rome then boom Victorian England. If anyone is interested, hygiene was amazing in the Middle East. Bath houses were copied by the crusaders after coming back to their land only to for it to be forbidden not long after. Soap industries were first established in the Middle East. Not everyone’s history was as filthy.
Hey I live in India
Did you know that most shampoos in India are cd still made of herbs
No bath a year? Hahahaa and u still alive?
I thought people used litter boxes
Why not mentioning the ancient middle Eastern people?
I can only imagine the smells back then
…., just wash rather than wipe…..
What about the 3 seashells for the toilet
Couldn’t they use water to clean themselves
So thanks to china we have the basic hygiene we knows now.
I have a metal ear cleaning thing I bought in China. It’s probably not the safest thing, but it totally works.
CAN YOU IMAGINE WHAT OUR LATE RELATIVES WENT THROUGH !!!
Sure am glad WE live in this day and age !!!
Oop whow
It baffles me how disgustingly unclean people were before the 20th century.
apparently in Judge Dred the writers think we gonna use seashells again in the future
Notice how there was no mention of what the Africans did. They don’t like to talk about how Africans lived pre-colonization
In the thumbnail HOW DOES HE GET OUT
In the 70s i worked in a paper mill; we still made blue and pink TP!
