All the negatives seem like positives from my perspective. Save for the empty properties. I already pay 40% plus with my benefits and healthcare. That’s half a paycheck I will never see, and I still have copays and deductibles, and no public transportation. I’d love to live in a walkable place with community and healthy fresh food.

I do wonder what the general statics are for how many people who move country eventually move back. I would think quite a lot move back. Especially when you move from one first world country to another. A bit different if moving from a developing country.

After coming in Portugal I’m also planning to leave. There are no jobs and even if there are they will not hire you by looking at your cv and your nationality. When you speak to them or ask something they will reply in English that we don’t speak English😆I mean they hate English so much that in one office the guy became so angry and told us only Portugese.

I lived in La Coruna back in the ’70s.. Yes, the fog, humidity was reminiscent of San Francisco — but I loved it. It was poor, but I was teaching English, so no biggy. I hope to return some day to embrace (or hate) all the changes the EU has brought. Portugal was beautiful for me, too, but I’m a horse person, so the cities didn’t matter. Nice stream – made me smile!
Just like Carolina is just a part of the USA, so is Holland just a part of The Netherlands. In fact, there basically are 2 Carolina’s at the East coast in the USA, just like there are 2 Hollands on the West coast in The Netherlands. The 2 Carolina’s are North Carolina and South Carolina, just like the 2 Hollands are Noord-Holland (North) and Zuid-Holland (South). The 2 Carolina’s are 2 separate states within the USA and the 2 Hollands are 2 Provincies (Provinces) within The Netherlands. Referring to the Country of The Netherlands by using the name of Holland is exactly the same as referring to the USA by using the name of Carolina. It is wrong and just so you know: The 2 Hollands are just 2 out of 12 Provinces which all together make The Netherlands, just like the 2 Carolina’s are just 2 out of 50 States which all together make the USA. One more thing: When you’re born or you live in one of both Hollands; you are a Hollander, but also a Nederlander, since this Province of Holland is nothing more than that: a province and 1 /12th of the Netherlands (Nederland). When you’re born or you live in one of both Carolina’s you’re a Carolinian, but also an USA American, since this State of Carolina is nothing more than that: just 1 state out of 50 of the entire USA. Every Hollander is also Nederlander but not every Nederlander is from Holland just like every Carolinian is also USA American, but not every USA American is Carolinian, right?
Bottom line here is: Please stop calling this country Holland. This country is called The Netherlands. Thank you!

The United States might be the only country in the world that prints money without worrying about its depreciation. That means, it has an unlimited supply of money, so unless you ban US people from coming to your country, or you are about to render your goods, services and real estates for their printed dollars.

This climate change idea….LOL….summers in Portugal were always hot. I remember summer temperatures hitting 40°C when I was a kid, over 30 years ago (and I lived in the coldest region). The difference is the perception: back then it was nornal and expected, now they announce it every year like it’s new and a crisis.
