Will Tissue Culture Replace Cloning Mother Plants?

Will Tissue Culture Replace Cloning Mother Plants?

With the space constraints and plant count issues some run into, the ability to maintain mother plants is tough. A lot of gardeners are seeing new options for maintaining genetics, one the latest being a process called tissue culture. In this video, Rob discussing the tissue culture method and explains why it’s becoming a more viable option for home growers.

Now this is just dumb. You must have a very sterile environment to do tissue culture, which is much more than you average grower will ever be willing to do. This is just some click bait bullshit to stir the pot.

When I plan on switching cultivars even moms end up flowering. Tissue culture is just to keep minis of my ones and twos, while running something else. I want that new version of the Cloudray S6 from AC Infinity 🤤. Lotta autoclaving. People, always use a lab grade media Iike a clean agar. Regular agar contains salt and is not used for tissue culture, only use lab grade, it costs money and works.

Having fun learning how to grow mushies. Starting to see more conversation about tissue culture within that space, especially from the wild foragers.
    Good stuff!

  10. @hackencoff6793 on March 27, 2024 at 8:49 am

I don’t think mothers for clones is going anywhere but to guarantee that weed is clean start with a tissue culture

  11. @doktorhunggari4415 on March 27, 2024 at 8:53 am

Have you grown out any tissue culture specimens? How long is the pre-vegetative stage? Is tissue culture a viable option for the home grower? ✌️💯🦚

  12. @OxiaMars on March 27, 2024 at 8:54 am

if you want to get disease, virus free tc. that’s not a thing home growers can even try.
Most of TC people find on youtube has nothing to do with virus free or "resetting"
You need at least a 2 eye or 3 eye microscope to cut the virus free tiny apical smaller than 1mm.
the microscope is a huge boy for a home grower
other than that, most of tc does not need profession equips, antiseptic does great job to reduce the contamination rate without a pro hood
so, if your purpose is get a virus free explant, the only and most have equipment is a dissecting microscope
usb microscopes for checking trichomes 100% nod working
also, there’s sugar free tc, lower contamination rate, but the source of carbon will be an issue.
I’m trying sugar free tc w/o co2 now, also trying tc with particular molds inside the jars

Doing tissue culture at home is not difficult & there are some great channels out there that literally walk through the process. They also show ways to make your own flow hood much much cheaper than buying one, if you decided to go that route. Good topic to bring up for sure, More to come!

  18. @Just___me_ on March 27, 2024 at 8:57 am

I did a little tissue culture about 40 years ago in a Horticulture class I took at Pirdue University. It was very interesting. For a home grower though, I’m not sure how much space you would save after procuring the supplies and tools that you would need. Mega cool though.

Shout out to you ,I’ve been following you along with alot of others ,While alot of guys will get on here and repeat what others have to say or (scotty) ..Just plain out bullshit or go all the way around the truth to sell products, You don’t….You always come to us educated ,well spoken ,you have done your homework and know what your talking about ..Not just that but you deliver it in a way that we all can understand without all the distractions of selling a product…Love you videos and how you love the plant .And you have a deep desire to understand all the aspects of the plant and how it relates to all growers …Open mind ,Bro stay true to your beliefs it definitely comes across in alot of your recent videos …

About time you made a decent video…nice ❤

  28. @Notahacker420 on March 27, 2024 at 9:13 am

I actually brought this up on MR GROW IT’S forum, because I live in the communist hell hole known as Chicago, I can legally only grow "5 plants up to 5 inches tall". Cloning is out of the question, so this is the only other option to clean/save phenotypes. Having a background in mycology and experience working with agar dishes in a sterile environment, this is right up my alley.

  29. @smm72 on March 27, 2024 at 9:14 am

Yes, I have been considering tissue culture. I am a hobby breeder just for myself every so often, so keeping something around I might want in the future like an f1 to backcross into would be a huge advantage. I can’t afford going to a lab to do this so I need to do it at home. Honestly I would love to see a video of yourself doing a tissue culture. Another reason I like tissue culture, is I love all the flavors cannabis can give so I want the gas, candy, orange, grape, strawberry, blueberry, peanut butter, banana, hash, pine, flavors but limited on plant counts. Seeds are great but when u find something worthwhile u don’t want to let it go till u find something atleast comparable. 2024 is a pheno hunting year, + I am Going to buy some clones, then the end of the year I am going to do the breeding.

  30. @HYEpower on March 27, 2024 at 9:15 am

I was gonna make a video showing my complete starter kit for made for tissue culturing specifically cannabis. But i got high and fell asleep… now its 12am and is anyone awake.,lol…

  31. @davidbabin1287 on March 27, 2024 at 9:16 am

This totally a great topic and has been on my mind for quite some time. I remember Kevin Jodry and Derrek Gillman I believe it was, speaking of this a good while back a got us really thinking hard about it to create ways to save some space and generate a much larger library ( on all of our different plants )! We been having a decent cloning station for years and this would take that to the next level.. Im super stoked you guys are looking at this..since following you guys closely ill be paying attention to your advancement on this Rob.. This is really exciting…

    Oh yeah

  35. @rawcultivators5856 on March 27, 2024 at 9:19 am

Crazy you just posted this topic. I actually just bought a stainless steel table, culture vessels and a few other tools to set up for tissue culture. No particular goal besides saving genetic and I just love learning new stuff

  36. @ClashClash89 on March 27, 2024 at 9:20 am

Well if you don’t have a couple hundred buck to invest into a laminal flow hood, and/or aren’t even certain, that tissue culture is for you.
You can start with a "Still Air Box" with is basically just and upside down tote crate, made from clear plastic and with 2 armholes cut in.
should cost less then 20$ and enable you to dabble in mushroom cultivation as well. oyster mushrooms are a nice for beginners.

  37. @joeduran627 on March 27, 2024 at 9:22 am

Nice video breaking down tissue culture. Athena just released a video on their small compact tissue culture setup. Looks dope

  38. @scottietimmons3322 on March 27, 2024 at 9:23 am

What about people in prohibition states?

  39. @JamiesonJames on March 27, 2024 at 9:23 am

When pheno hunting auto’s taking clones just doesn’t cut it, I assume tissue culture would be a prefered method. Would love to see this in practice and what type of media prep is involved.

  40. @WheelgunsOnWheels on March 27, 2024 at 9:24 am

It’s neat and all, but seeds have been doing this for a hundred and thirty million years or so already. I’ve recognized a trend that is fairly consistent that shows when humans try to improve on nature they lose in every endeavor eventually. It’s great that you’re sharing this new technology so no shade on you for sure, just shade on this witchcraft at the moment.

  46. @tristans333 on March 27, 2024 at 9:31 am

It seems like cloning, but with more steps…

  47. @comfortablynumb9342 on March 27, 2024 at 9:33 am

Being able to eliminate disease and pests is pretty appealing. And storing vials is definitely easier than keeping mother plants alive, while using less space.

  48. @RyanStonedonCanadianGaming on March 27, 2024 at 9:34 am

You still need the vegetation to start a tissue culture.

  49. @smokehomegrown47 on March 27, 2024 at 9:34 am

Thats dope! It reminds me of mycology days! 😎 You can also make a quality laminar flow hood yourself or you might even be able to make do with a SAB if you have a good sterile technique. Dope video!✌ Its not that hard to DIY this I hope people try!
