4 years after pot was legalized, Canada's cannabis industry still faces challenges

Legal cannabis is big business in Canada, contributing tens of billions of dollars to the GDP since being legalized in 2018.

But while the industry is a major economic driver for the country, growers continue to face challenges because they still have to go head-to-head against the illicit market.

Emad Agahi takes us behind the scenes at one of the world’s largest greenhouses found in British Columbia.

Seems to have quite the racist hiring practices, don’t see any diversity in their staff whatsoever.
I absolutely do not support any of these industrial grow complexes or companies, I absolutely refuse to purchase overpriced poor quality cannabis, I live in Vancouver I can buy much better quality cannabis at for cheaper prices from people that I’ve known for many years, until the canvas act is amended I will continue to do this and I can say the same thing for everyone I know.
I can proudly say I’ve never purchased or smoked corporate Cannabis nor do I plan to in the near future

And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire. (Revelation 20:15)
The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good. The LORD looked down from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there were any that did understand, and seek God. They are all gone aside, they are all together become filthy: there is none that doeth good, no, not one. Have all the workers of iniquity no knowledge? who eat up my people as they eat bread, and call not upon the LORD. (Psalms 14:1-4)

  12. Peter Vigna on June 1, 2022 at 7:08 am

Make it so we can start a home business selling clones and seeds to the local licensed cannabisstores no one is consuming them why do i need a million plus dollar facility to do that????

  13. Last Chang on June 1, 2022 at 7:09 am

When you stop illigal pot growing in Canada🇨🇦, it’ll stabilize the housing market as well.
    – the two go hand in hand.

  14. ShivaTD420 on June 1, 2022 at 7:09 am

Hilarious these corps brag how clean their schwag is in a desperate attempt to drive attention away from their mass produced hothouse hay. Buds grown by min wage newbies, trimmed in machines that destroy all tricombs and beat up the bud. I swear they dry it in a oven just to make sure it smells like dead grass, then hide their years old shake in bottles you can’t look at until you bought it.

Nobody can become financially successful over night. They put in background work but we tend to see the finished part. Fear is a dangerous component, hindering us from taking bold steps we need in other to reach our goals.

    Government GMO cannabis.

  17. Harry Gill on June 1, 2022 at 7:16 am

Government should relax the rules on cannabis

  18. Clarkem on June 1, 2022 at 7:16 am

Lots of complainers just gorw it lol.

  19. Chocolate Sage on June 1, 2022 at 7:17 am

Cause no one’s buying it from the government. If it’s h cheaper down the road I’ll go there

  20. kerohime on June 1, 2022 at 7:18 am

I’m sorry to say this, but the legal stuff isn’t just more expensive, the quality is awful. It often comes incredibly dry and and some nuggets you need a hammer to break apart. The black market popularity is a reflection on what is available in the legal market.

  21. VictoR CreeD on June 1, 2022 at 7:18 am

Anything the government touches, turns to 💩

  22. The Mitton Method on June 1, 2022 at 7:20 am

biggest challenge: quality of product. and value for $$. i don’t smoke but if i did, i’d choose a non-government controlled source.

  23. Tino Moc on June 1, 2022 at 7:20 am

They sell crap weed for an expensive price 3 grams for 50$

  24. Moose Racks on June 1, 2022 at 7:20 am

40 billion in taxes the government has collected…SOON…and this liberal/ndp government is pushing for decriminalization of illicit drugs…Opioid, HEROIN….hmmm what’s next…Legalization 😳🤔🙄

  26. Dwayne Campbell on June 1, 2022 at 7:21 am

The black market will always rule. Better growers better tasting better price. Screw Trudeau

  27. (WatchingTheEndUnfold) on June 1, 2022 at 7:22 am

Ya we know , it was a scourge , highly illegal,… until the government realized it was a cash cow .
I trust gov Cannabis about as much as i trust venom injections.

LOOKS LIKE HOT GARBAGE & TYRANNY

  29. Mark Hudson on June 1, 2022 at 7:24 am

Not so sure the black market is the issue for Pure Sunfarms. They grow a ton of mediocre bud. It’s your basic, cheap oz and we smokers know it. They got bags on the shelves from harvest months back while others I miss out on if I don’t check into the stores nearby weekly. The same can be said about a few other massive grows across Canada (not all). I’d be interested to know if these statements he is making in the video stand true for all commercial and craft growers

  30. Tammi Merktz on June 1, 2022 at 7:24 am

If people still prefer a black market inferior product, then price is your problem.

  31. linda martin on June 1, 2022 at 7:26 am

    Legalise it,you dummies.

  32. Egzoset on June 1, 2022 at 7:30 am

TV industries so poor they can’t afford a decent microscope to finally reveal the actual star of this whole show?? E.G. if not shaken off industrially, before getting sold again…

  33. Pak and Afghan cannabis seeds on June 1, 2022 at 7:32 am

Which seeds are often used here?

  34. James Fowler on June 1, 2022 at 7:34 am

They may be the number one producer, but it’s all fast-growing s***,, stick with your local dealer

  35. FrigityFrigBalls on June 1, 2022 at 7:35 am

you cannot grow good weed in a greenhouse.

  36. Ted Farmer on June 1, 2022 at 7:36 am

Regulated cannabis costs over double what black market product goes for on average. The industry can brag about a clean product, but when you get it in the recreational dispensary in the Maritimes, it’s over manicured and so dry that the buds disintegrate into dust. But worst of all is that you must purchase your selections blindly, without the ability to see or smell it first. Spending $70-90 for a quarter ounce of herb that is sold purely based upon THC content is a scam and a shame.
The industry doesn’t realize that recreational growers have learned to grow our own better than they could ever imagine. Our herb is fresh, clean, and we are proud of our individual and collective achievements.
Even with a 4 plant limit, the average grower can produce enough herb to never end to purchase industry herb ever again.
THAT is why they are losing money.

  37. Derek Woodford on June 1, 2022 at 7:37 am

Only a politician could lose money sellin weed….. Morons.

  38. Ray Bradley on June 1, 2022 at 7:37 am

The united states should legalize pot and wake up ,if the world all smoked pot there would be no wars ,pot is good for the world ,peaceful races have used it for thousands of years ,tax it and sell it and watch your economy grow ,legalize it,now dont waste time ,it makes you feel good, and has many benifits its not like ,alcohol,or cigarettes,it doesnt cause liver failure or cancer it helps calming down urges to harm.its a peaceful plant,.so how about legallizing it so every one can smoke the peace pipe ,and give putin some too, maybe he’ll get right and quit bombing people that are his neighbors. Im ready for a change not next year now,do whats wright senate vote to legallize the peoples recreational drug of choice ,pot.

  39. Valkonnen on June 1, 2022 at 7:38 am

These dispensaries charge too much because of the overhead. The same is available for less, so that’s what regular smokers will buy. How is this hard to understand?

  40. Duran ‘Dman’ Bodasing on June 1, 2022 at 7:39 am

All the legal cannabis brands are total garbage – no one brand takes the title as the go-to best of the best. Growers like these guys are doing an amazing job. But until the game changes from the Black Market price point- ain’t no body gonna keep buying over priced cannabis in Canada. Not enough people.

LET DOWN THE MARKETING RESTRICTIONS AND LET SMALL BRANDS BECOME LEGENDS WITH GREAT GROWERS AS PARTNERS ❤️

  41. No Name on June 1, 2022 at 7:39 am

Ummm.. it’s actually the other way around, Big operations like this use plenty of pesticides & chemicals, Your average home grower does not.

  42. Dave in Canada on June 1, 2022 at 7:41 am

Justin needs to be jailed for legalizing this.

  43. Paradingwolves on June 1, 2022 at 7:42 am

Biggest problems with legal pot is the cost and quality. You can get cheaper and better bud on the black market 10/10 times.

  44. bon bon on June 1, 2022 at 7:43 am

Canada raked in billions last year in cannabis sales. Keep going

  45. BonSang on June 1, 2022 at 7:43 am

their main challenge is trying to put out good product with out accepting the legacy growers in the gig.

quality of cannabis is abysmal in canada

  46. m pfligs on June 1, 2022 at 7:43 am

The black market is still much cheaper. So people will go else where.

  47. mic8080 on June 1, 2022 at 7:45 am

We all know doesn’t take much to grow great pot and sealing sh## pot 12$ is sickning,THE PRICE is GARBAGE lol hahaha
